I've been lucky enough to meet some of the greatest musicians of our time. I've shared meals with them, cooked for them, and listened to their stories. In this book, I'll take you on a culinary journey with some of my heroes, from intimate dinners with Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney to backstage feasts with The Rolling Stones and U2.
Along the way, we'll explore the lives and kitchens of these legendary musicians. We'll learn about their favorite foods, their cooking rituals, and the stories behind some of their most iconic songs. This book is a celebration of music, food, and the unforgettable moments that happen when they come together. It's a story about the power of music to connect us, and the way that food can bring us together.
Chapter 1: Bob Dylan
I first met Bob Dylan in 1997, when I was working as a chef at a restaurant in New York City. He came in one night with a group of friends, and I was immediately struck by his presence. He was quiet and reserved, but there was an undeniable charisma about him.
We started talking about music, and I soon realized that we shared a love of the blues. We talked about Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and Robert Johnson. We also talked about food, and I learned that Dylan was a big fan of Southern cooking.
A few weeks later, I invited Dylan to come to my apartment for dinner. I cooked him a meal of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and collard greens. He loved it. We talked for hours that night, about music, food, and life.
