In his autobiography, My Life As Dissenter, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. tells the story of his life and work as a civil rights leader. King was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1929. He was the son of a Baptist minister and was raised in a religious household. King attended Morehouse College and Crozer Theological Seminary. After graduating from seminary, King became the pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama.

In 1955, Rosa Parks, a black woman, was arrested in Montgomery for refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white man. King led the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which lasted for over a year and resulted in the desegregation of the city's buses. King's leadership during the Montgomery Bus Boycott brought him to national attention and made him a leading figure in the civil rights movement.

In 1957, King helped to found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). The SCLC was a coalition of black churches that worked to promote nonviolent resistance to segregation and discrimination. King led the SCLC in a number of nonviolent protest campaigns, including the Birmingham Campaign and the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

King's work for civil rights earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. He continued to lead the civil rights movement until his assassination in 1968.

My Life As Dissenter is a powerful and inspiring autobiography of a man who dedicated his life to fighting for justice and equality. King's story is a reminder that one person can make a difference in the world.
