Merchants, travelers, and diplomats brought new languages, customs, and beliefs to the regions they visited. The Silk Road played a pivotal role in the spread of Islam. Arab traders introduced the religion to Central Asia and China, where it became a major force in shaping local societies. The Silk Road's prosperity lasted for centuries, but its influence gradually declined in the 15th century. Several factors contributed to its demise, including the rise of maritime trade routes and political instability in Asia. The opening of new sea routes around Africa and India made it easier and cheaper to transport goods between Europe and Asia, bypassing the Silk Road. Despite its decline, the Silk Road continues to shape the world we live in. The cultural and economic exchanges that took place along its routes have left an enduring legacy.
