A Life Shrouded in Darkness

Louis Braille was born in Coupvray, France, on January 4, 1809. At the tender age of three, a tragic accident occurred that would shape the course of his life forever. While playing in his father's workshop, he accidentally stabbed himself in the eye with an awl. Despite immediate medical attention, an infection set in, spreading to his other eye and leaving him completely blind.
