Mithridates VI, King of Pontus, was one of the most formidable enemies that Rome ever faced. He fought three wars against the Republic, and came close to defeating it on several occasions. This book tells the story of Mithridates' life and campaigns, and explores his legacy as one of the greatest military commanders of antiquity.

Mithridates was born in 120 BC into a noble family in the kingdom of Pontus, on the southern coast of the Black Sea. His father, Mithridates V, was a skilled diplomat and military commander, and he raised his son to be the same. Mithridates VI was a gifted linguist, and he is said to have been able to speak 22 languages. He was also a skilled hunter and horseman, and he excelled in the martial arts.

In 96 BC, Mithridates VI became king of Pontus. He quickly set about expanding his kingdom, and he soon came into conflict with Rome. In 88 BC, he invaded the Roman province of Asia, and he quickly overran the province. The Romans responded to Mithridates' invasion by sending a series of armies to Asia. However, Mithridates was able to defeat each of these armies, and he even captured the Roman general Sulla. In 85 BC, Mithridates invaded Greece, and he quickly overran the country. However, the Romans were able to defeat Mithridates at the Battle of Chaeronea, and he was forced to retreat back to Asia.

In 74 BC, Mithridates invaded Pontus again. However, the Romans were able to defeat him again, and he was forced to flee to Armenia. In 66 BC, Mithridates invaded Pontus for the third time. However, he was again defeated by the Romans, and he was forced to commit suicide.

Mithridates the Great was one of the most formidable enemies that Rome ever faced. He was a skilled military commander, and he came close to defeating Rome on several occasions. Mithridates' legacy is that of a great warrior and a formidable enemy of Rome.
