LaFeber is one of the most respected historians of American foreign policy. He has written more than 20 books on the subject, including the classic The American Age. In his new book, LaFeber draws on his decades of research to show how American imperialism has shaped the world we live in.
LaFeber begins his book by tracing the roots of American imperialism back to the country's early history. He shows how the Founding Fathers were influenced by the European empires of their day, and how they believed that the United States had a duty to spread its values and institutions around the world.
LaFeber then follows the development of American imperialism through the 19th and 20th centuries. He shows how the United States acquired a vast empire in the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Pacific. He also shows how American imperialism led to wars with Spain, Mexico, and Vietnam.
In the final chapters of his book, LaFeber argues that American imperialism is still alive and well today. He points to the United States' military interventions in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya as evidence of the country's continuing desire to dominate the world.
The Return of the Master Historian of American Imperialism is a timely and important book. It is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand the role of the United States in the world.
